SUMMARY:From Law to Liberty: Pro Bono Immigration Habeas Corpus Training
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM\nRutgers Law School Center for Law and Justice\n123 Washington Street\, Newark\, NJ 07102 \n  \nThis conference will help expand attorneys’ ability to represent detained adult and child immigrants\, in particular by providing guidance on how to file habeas corpus motions in federal court. There will also be workshops on other statutory claims that can be brought\, when detainees may be eligible for a bond hearing\, and how to file for and represent clients at these hearings\, and how to best advocate for detainees in prolonged detention. \nWe are calling on EVERY attorney in our congregations\, our communities\, our group chats\, and our circles — especially those who believe in dignity\, liberation\, and doing what is right even when it’s hard. \n📢 Please share this far and wide.\nThere is a powerful (and necessary) training happening: \n**From Law to Liberty: Pro Bono Immigration Habeas Corpus Training**\nThis training will equip attorneys to:\n✊🏾 Represent detained adults AND children facing immigration detention\n✊🏾 File habeas corpus motions in federal court\n✊🏾 Advocate for bond hearings and fight prolonged detention\n✊🏾 Use legal tools to challenge unjust systems that cage human beings \nLet’s be clear: people are sitting in detention right now who deserve representation\, dignity\, and a fighting chance.
