SUMMARY:Workshop: Economic Injustice 101
DESCRIPTION:UU FaithAction NJ and the Economic Task Force\, together with Work Environmental Council\, are hosting a training conference to help us learn how to effectively campaign to promote economic justice in our communities and our state.  We will learn how to be more effective at bringing people together to exercise political power. \n \nWHAT: Interactive Economic Training for Advocates Conference \nWHEN:  January 5\, 2019 \nTIME:  10 am to 3 pm \nWHERE:  The Unitarian Society of East Brunswick\, 176 Tices Lane\, East Brunswick \n\nTo get a little sense of how these educational/community-organizing trainings work\, please take a look at this 4 minute video\, which was produced after one of these trainings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umQjeGMxjDY\n\nThese are interactive workshops where we share our own experiences. Attending this training with other UUs will be a great way for us to learn more about each other and that knowledge will make us a stronger and more effective organization. I bet it will help us be effective advocates for economic justice!\n\nNo matter how much time we spend learning about what’s going on in the world\, sometimes the best thing to do in rough times is to come together. And maybe come up with things we can do. Even better if different groups are doing different things but pushing towards the same goals.\n\nPlease consider attending this training with other UUs\, but also people from other faiths and backgrounds. To move forward on our agenda for promoting Economic Justice we have to not only be well-educated on the inequities that exist but well-trained in organizing. Let’s put our heads together and work on a campaign with help from people who are doing this effectively nationwide.\n\nREGISTER HERE!!

SUMMARY:Join the ‘No Fossil Fuels’ contingent at the NJ Women’s March
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s March movement has emerged as one of the most powerful\, intersectional forces in the US progressive movement. On Saturday\, January 19th our campaign will join forces with the NJ Women’s March on Trenton. We’ll march together with signs and banners that amplify our local fights and visualize our demand for the Governor to enact a moratorium on fossil fuel development. And by joining the march we’ll seek to demonstrate that fossil fuel pollution and climate destruction disproportionately impact women and particularly women of color. Meet us at the NJ Sierra Club office at 125 W. Hanover Street in Trenton on Sat. Jan. 19th at 10:15am. We’ll distribute some signs and banners (or feel free to make and bring your own!) before we march two blocks to join the beginning of the Women’s March at 11am. Email msmith@fwwatch.org to RSVP and with any questions you may have.

SUMMARY:Redistricting Reform Best Practices for a Fairer New Jersey
DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of New Jersey – together with the Fair Districts New Jersey Coalition and the Network for Responsible Public Policy – has announced the first set in a series of ten public forums taking place across the state to educate voters on gerrymandering and the legislative redistricting process\, and to present ideas for reforms. The forums\, “Redistricting Reform Best Practices for a Fairer New Jersey\,” are a continuation of the League’s voter education work to demystify a process that has a great impact on our communities and our political representation\, but that few fully understand. All events are free and open to the public. \n \nIn addition to outlining the current legislative redistricting process in New Jersey\, LWV wants to provide the public with information about anti-gerrymandering reforms in other states\, and present redistricting principles and best practices that can be applied here in New Jersey. And more importantly\, the League wants to encourage ongoing public commentary on redistricting so citizens feel empowered to participate in the next map-drawing process.‍
