Gov. Murphy’s proposed budget includes much-needed revenue increases that help prevent devastating cuts to schools\, transit\, healthcare\, and other critical services—but we need to go further. Without bold action\, NJ faces more cuts that will hurt working families and make our state unaffordable for all but the wealthy. A strong state budget—rooted in progressive revenues—ensures we aren’t left scrambling when federal dollars disappear. \nJoin us at the NJIT Student Center in Newark to send a clear message: Protect revenues. If you are interested in this space\, and you aren’t (entirely or at all) cisgender\, it’s a space for you. \nWhat do we do during the gatherings? SUMMARY:Immigration Justice Monthly Task Force Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Immigration Justice Task Force Meeting on Zoom on Thursday March 6 at 8:00pm will feature a special Guest – Immigration Activist Ravi Ragbir.  Mr. Ragbir is an immigrant rights activist and organizer who serves as the Executive Director of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York\, where he works directly with those who are facing deportation to empower them in the struggle to remain in the US.  \nFormer President Biden pardoned him in January 2025.  After coming to the United States from Trinidad and Tobago and becoming a legal resident\, he was convicted of wire fraud in 2000.  After completing his prison sentence\, he was ordered deported. Instead of deportation\, he experienced  indefinite detention for years and has been the subject of court cases in order to stay in the United States.  \nWe are excited to have the benefit of hearing Mr. Ragbir and learning of his experiences and his advice at this week’s Task Force meeting. Join us to connect with other trans/nonbinary+ UUs and co-create support and community across our faith. All you need to bring is yourself (and other trans/nonbinary friends\, if you’d like)! Non-UUs are welcome if they are OK with being in a UU-focused community (we won’t proselytize). If you are interested in this space\, and you aren’t (entirely or at all) cisgender\, it’s a space for you. \nWhat do we do during the gatherings? They are a cozy community space where we connect with each other with games and breakout groups\, share ideas and stories on all kinds of topics\, listen to music and poetry (often by trans/nonbinary+ creators)\, and much more! \nThis is a drop-in space\, where folks can come and go as works best for them\, and where people can join us at any time.
