SUMMARY:UPLIFT Trans/Nonbinary+ Pastoral Care Small Group
DESCRIPTION:What is pastoral care\, exactly? Pastoral care is support with navigating life—big and small things\, joys and hardships and all those mixed together. It’s not therapy\, but a way for us to be in community together\, supporting each other. This is a space to share the hard stuff and to hold the hard stuff that others are navigating in their lives. To read more about pastoral care and find some resources to locate pastoral care\, check out this post by UU Youth Ministry. \nDuring our time together\, our lead chaplain/facilitators will share opening and closing words\, and in between\, there is time for everyone to share what’s on their heards\, and receive what others are sharing about their own lives. It’s a supportive\, judgment-free place to connect with other trans/nonbinary+ people. \nRegistration\nJoin our pastoral care community–register here! \nThis year\, the pastoral space is for adults only. If you’re a child or a youth and you’d like to have a space to talk about the hard stuff\, let us know by registering for the pastoral space and putting a note in the comments. When we have enough children and youth registered\, we’ll plan for opening additional spaces for different ages. And stay tuned for additional opportunities for children and youth to connect—we’re working on this! \nAccessibility Information\nClosed captioning will be available\, and any common chat content will also be spoken aloud. Please be mindful of processing and communication access\, and speak one at a time. Meeting will not be recorded\, and participation\, as well as what is shared\, will be confidential. There is no requirement to appear on video or to otherwise maintain “conventional” appearances. Any additional accessibility needs? Let us know by emailing lgbtq@uua.org or aballou@uua.org! We’ll do our best to ensure you can fully access the space. \nWho is this space for?\nThis is a closed event specifically for trans/nonbinary+ people. Anyone who is trans\, nonbinary\, metagender\, multigender\, genderfluid\, agender\, demigender\, genderqueer\, and otherwise not wholly or entirely cis is welcome to attend. \nYou do not have to be UU to attend\, as long as you are comfortable with this space having a UU flavor/focus. \nThis pastoral small group is for ages 18 and older. Note: anyone who is a legal adult but is enrolled in high school and/or their congregation’s youth group is asked to attend the youth space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information contact lgbtq@uua.org. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:“People’s Hearing” on NJ Transit Fare Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Wed. March 27 at 12pm – Transit Advocates to Host a Virtual “People’s Hearing” on NJ Transit Fare Hikes\nWHEN: Wednesday\, March 27 at 12:00pm \nWHERE: Watch the event live on New Jersey Policy Perspective’s YouTube page. \nWHAT: Transit advocates\, policy experts\, and community leaders from For The Many NJ and the Fund NJ Transit coalition will co-host a virtual public hearing on NJ Transit’s proposal to raise fares by 15 percent. \nThe event\, The People’s Virtual Hearing on NJ Transit Fare Hikes\, was organized by advocates after NJ Transit did not provide a virtual option for members of the public to testify on the agency’s plan to raise fares by 15 percent this year and 3 percent every year after. Despite numerous requests for a virtual option\, NJ Transit moved forward with in-person only hearings that were not accessible and sparsely attended. \nAdvocates\, riders\, local elected officials\, and community leaders have not only called on NJ Transit to provide a virtual option to testify\, but to refrain from adopting the double-digit fare increase now that Governor Murphy has proposed a dedicated source of state funding for the agency. \nWHO: \n\n\nAlex Ambrose\, New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP)\, emcee \n\n\nZoe Baldwin\, Regional Plan Association and Fund NJ Transit coalition \n\n\nEric Benson\, For The Many NJ \n\n\nAdditional organizations\, elected officials\, riders\, and members of the public to be announced at a later date \n\n\n  \n# # # \nFor The Many NJ is a statewide coalition of more than 40 organizations working to expand funding for essential services and improve budget practices to meet current and future needs\, especially for communities that have been historically left behind. \nThe Fund NJ Transit coalition seeks to bring greater prosperity and better transportation to communities across New Jersey. We represent a convening of groups from across New Jersey’s advocacy spectrum to support legislative funding initiatives and to support transformation of NJ Transit into a modern\, effective transit agency for the state’s one million and growing daily transit riders.

SUMMARY:Understanding NJ Local Government | LWVNJ Activist Training
DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday\, March 19th\nTime: 6pm – 7:30pm\nLocation: Zoom\nREGISTER FOR TRAINING \nMost people know that the actions that federal and state governments take can have major implications on the lives of millions of Americans. But what about local government?   In New Jersey\, thousands of municipal and county government officials are responsible for making critical daily decisions and delivering essential services to the communities they serve. Despite the tremendous power that local government has over our daily lives\, most people know little to nothing about what it does or how it works. \nJoin this training to learn about the structures and powers of the local government bodies that are making decisions for your community. \n\nThe Activist Training Program was launched in 2021 with the goal of providing free and nonpartisan public education and training on the knowledge and skills activists need to drive grassroots change and defend democracy. \nLWVNJ offers training in 4 core areas: \n\nUnderstanding New Jersey Government\nGrassroots Organizing\nVoter Outreach\nLegislative Advocacy\n\nThese trainings are open to League members and members of the public who support the League’s mission and goals.
