SUMMARY:Rev. Charlie Ortman’s (Belated) Retirement Party & Dinner

More than 60 UUCM’ers had signed up to travel to Providence to celebrate Rev Charlie’s retirement during the 2020 UUA General Assembly. The lockdown for Covid 19 canceled that party\, but now we have invited Rev Charlie to come back to Montclair. Those who knew Rev Charlie\, or those simply interested in hearing stories from one of our beloved former leaders\, will gather to hear stories\, ask questions and warmly welcome back one of our past ministers. \nSuggested donation is $30/person. \nWe have also added an extra option to Be a Party Booster. For an additional $20\, these funds will go to party decorations\, etc. and/or the Ortman Fund. If you have already registered\, please edit your registration to add this option. \nShare your reflections on former UUCM Rev. Ortman \nThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair is thrilled to welcome back former Rev. Charlie Ortman this spring as we celebrate our 125th Anniversary. As we plan to honor and reflect on his time with UUCM\, we are seeking reflections from those who knew him or have thoughts to share about his legacy. \nTo share your reflections\, please fill out our brief Google form: \n\nhttps://forms.gle/WoQRztXksQM5EGgZ8\n\nWhile we cannot include everything we receive\, we plan to comb through all contributions carefully to assemble a piece of meaning and substance. \nIn addition to filling out the form yourself\, you’re welcome to pass this message along to anyone else who may have reflections to share. \nIf you have questions\, please contact Jerry Fried.

SUMMARY:NJ Wind Works Rally
DESCRIPTION:What: NJ Wind Works Rally: Harnessing the Wind for a Lasting Renewable Future\n\nWhen: Saturday\, June 10\, 2023\, 12-3 pm.\n\nWhere: The Great Lawn\, Long Branch\, NJ (facilities available\, wheelchair accessible)\n\nParking: Public parking lots (suggested early arrival)\, accessible public transit via train\n\nFamily Friendly? Yes!\n↓ ↓ ↓ RSVP Below ↓ ↓ ↓\nWe need all hands on deck! We need your help to support offshore wind in NJ as fossil fuel interests try to delay our clean energy transition.\n\nWhy This Matters: The climate crisis is putting our oceans and NJ communities in danger. One of the best ways we can fight climate change is through the equitable and safe development of renewable energy\, including offshore wind projects. Environmentally responsible offshore wind energy projects can spur economic development\, create jobs in coastal communities\, improve energy security\, and cut climate-destabilizing pollution. But to protect their own interests\, the fossil fuel industry is doing everything it can to delay the development of offshore wind–including spreading misinformation about offshore wind to stall our transition to clean energy. Fossil fuel opponents to clean energy are putting personal greed over the health of us all.\n\nWe need a clean energy transition NOW and offshore wind is NJ’s best defense against climate change. We need you to make your voice heard in support of offshore wind and a clean energy and safe climate future for NJ. You can learn more about offshore wind here.\n\nThis is the event of the year\, so let’s show up strong by bringing friends\, family\, activists\, and neighbors to Rally for Offshore Wind on Saturday June 10th! New Jersey’s clean energy future depends on our demanding it.

SUMMARY:Newark\, NJ: Our Planet\, Our Future - March and Rally
DESCRIPTION:Our Planet\, Our Future: New Jersey Call to Climate Action\nDespite the worsening climate crisis and our state’s commitment to protect environmental justice communities\, two of Governor Murphy’s own agencies are proposing to build new dirty gas power plants in the region’s most pollution-overburdened communities. \nRally with us on Monday\, June 5 at 4:00 PM in Newark to tell Governor Murphy: No new gas plants in North Jersey! RSVP: https://fwwat.ch/3nPy86T\nMeet at Downbottom Farms 2 Saint Charles Street Newark\, NJ 07105 \nWe’ll gather at Downbottom Farms in Newark\, and march about one mile to Riverfront Park\, which sits near both sites of the proposed gas plants\, where we’ll rally to call on Governor Murphy to walk his talk on climate and stop these toxic proposals! We’ll have rides available if joining the march is not accessible for you. \nPlease RSVP so we can share specifics on the march route\, schedule\, and transportation\, and any changes that may come up. RSVP here: https://fwwat.ch/3nPy86T \nThis action is part of Our Planet\, Our Future\, a week of actions calling on Governor Murphy to stop the seven proposed dirty energy projects threatening New Jersey. Join us for other actions throughout the week! \nMore Info:\nThe Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (“PVSC”) is proposing to build a new gas plant at their massive wastewater treatment facility in the Ironbound Community. If built\, this would be the fourth dirty gas plant in a community that already suffers from the disproportionate health impacts of these gas plants and dozens of other toxic sites. \nNJ Transit is also seeking to build a new gas plant in the Kearny Meadowlands in the middle of pollution-overburdened communities in East Essex and Hudson Counties. This plant is to provide backup power to trains – a goal that could be met with renewable energy alternatives – and would also run 24/7 to sell power into the grid. \nInstead of pouring a massive amount of public dollars into fossil fuel projects\, both of these public agencies should put their resources into forward-thinking renewable energy alternatives that won’t harm public health.
