DESCRIPTION:UPLIFT\nMonthly Trans/Non-Binary Gathering Space\nJoin the UPLIFT monthly gatherings for trans\, nonbinary\, and other not-entirely-or-at-all-cis UUs.  Join us to connect with other trans/nonbinary+ UUs and co-create support and community across our faith.  All you need to bring is yourself (and other trans/nonbinary friends\, if you’d like)! \nThese gatherings focus on getting to know each other and on sharing our collective dreams\, ideas\, and talents for this space. Expansive definitions of trans\, nonbinary\, and UU all apply.  Non-UUs are welcome if they are OK with being in a UU-focused community.  If you are interested in this space\, and you aren’t (entirely or at all) cisgender\, it’s a space for you. \nRegister to Attend \n  \n\nNOTE: This space is intentionally multi-generational. It is open to and welcoming of trans/nonbinary elders as well as children\, youth\, and young adults. Standard UUA online safety measures apply to ensure all people under 18 are able to attend. We’re glad to have you here! \nAccessibility Notes: Closed captioning will be available\, and any common chat content will also be spoken aloud. Please be mindful of processing and communication access\, and speak one at a time. Meeting will not be recorded\, and participation\, as well as what is shared\, will be confidential. There is no requirement to appear on video or to otherwise maintain “conventional” appearances. Any additional accessibility needs? Let us know by emailing lgbtq@uua.org or aballou@uua.org! We’ll do our best to ensure you can fully access the space. \n\n\n\n\nTo Register as a Child/Youth: Children 13 or younger: please bring with you a parent/guardian\, or a trusted adult who is approved by your parent/guardian (it is OK if that parent/guardian/other adult is not trans/nonbinary). SUMMARY:WATCH THE COURT: End Immigrant Detention in NJ!
DESCRIPTION:  \nCoreCivic\, the world’s largest private prison corporation\, is seeking an injunction that would prevent New Jersey from enforcing its ban when the Elizabeth Detention Center is set to expire. Oral arguments for the preliminary injunction is set for August 14th. \nJoin us as we pack the courtroom and demonstrate outside the courthouse. It is possible the judge may issue a ruling on this day. \nWe will gather outside 402 East State Street in Trenton beginning at 9:00 am. Outside activities will include a press conference with community voices\, invited electeds\, and a community art build. \n\nWe are also requesting volunteer note takers who are comfortable presenting valid ID to observe the hearing from inside the courthouse and summarize arguments and decisions for advocates\, activists\, and media on the outside.\n \nTransportation\, Logistics:\nThere are trains from Amtrak\, NJ Transit\, and SEPTA that will take you within a few blocks of the federal courthouse.\n\n\nNJAIJ has a limited transportation stipend pool to help offset costs for organizations who are carpooling and bringing others. If you would like to apply for this support\, please contact Aidee Pascual at apascual@njimmigrantjustice.org. \nVolunteers who wish to support the Court Watch should bring valid government ID and be prepared to surrender cell phones\, tablets\, and laptops at security. Volunteers who wish to remain outside at the demonstration are advised to wear clothes suitable for the outdoors. Water will be provided! \nPlease consider joining us. Additional details about the impact of this decision are below. Thank you again for your leadership and continued fight! \nSolidarity\,\nTeam NJAIJ \nLearn More:\nCoreCivic filed a lawsuit in February to keep NJ’s anti-detention bill AB5207 from going into effect and to keep the notorious Elizabeth Detention Center open past its contract end date of 8/31/2023. \nUnfortunately\, the Biden administration has chosen the side of the private prison company and filed an amicus brief in favor of the EDC staying open.\nWe intend to be there to show that a broad range of constituencies are opposed to the for-profit prison company CoreCivic’s ICE detention center being allowed to remain in our state. \nThrowing ICE detention out of our state is part of a grassroots effort to keep our neighbors safe from detention and deportation. \nIn 2022 the Immigrant Legal Resources Center and Detention Watch Network issued a report called “Build It and They Will Fill It”. It showed that a detention facility with the capacity of the EDC meant that immigrants in the surrounding communities were over 2.6 times more likely to be detained by ICE. \n\n\n
