SUMMARY:UPLIFT Trans/Nonbinary+ Pastoral Care Small Group
DESCRIPTION:What is pastoral care\, exactly? Pastoral care is support with navigating life—big and small things\, joys and hardships and all those mixed together. It’s not therapy\, but a way for us to be in community together\, supporting each other. This is a space to share the hard stuff and to hold the hard stuff that others are navigating in their lives. To read more about pastoral care and find some resources to locate pastoral care\, check out this post by UU Youth Ministry. \nDuring our time together\, our lead chaplain/facilitators will share opening and closing words\, and in between\, there is time for everyone to share what’s on their heards\, and receive what others are sharing about their own lives. It’s a supportive\, judgment-free place to connect with other trans/nonbinary+ people. \nRegistration\nJoin our pastoral care community–register here! \nThis year\, the pastoral space is for adults only. If you’re a child or a youth and you’d like to have a space to talk about the hard stuff\, let us know by registering for the pastoral space and putting a note in the comments. When we have enough children and youth registered\, we’ll plan for opening additional spaces for different ages. And stay tuned for additional opportunities for children and youth to connect—we’re working on this! \nAccessibility Information\nClosed captioning will be available\, and any common chat content will also be spoken aloud. Please be mindful of processing and communication access\, and speak one at a time. Meeting will not be recorded\, and participation\, as well as what is shared\, will be confidential. There is no requirement to appear on video or to otherwise maintain “conventional” appearances. Any additional accessibility needs? Let us know by emailing lgbtq@uua.org or aballou@uua.org! We’ll do our best to ensure you can fully access the space. \nWho is this space for?\nThis is a closed event specifically for trans/nonbinary+ people. Anyone who is trans\, nonbinary\, metagender\, multigender\, genderfluid\, agender\, demigender\, genderqueer\, and otherwise not wholly or entirely cis is welcome to attend. \nYou do not have to be UU to attend\, as long as you are comfortable with this space having a UU flavor/focus. \nThis pastoral small group is for ages 18 and older. Note: anyone who is a legal adult but is enrolled in high school and/or their congregation’s youth group is asked to attend the youth space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information contact lgbtq@uua.org. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Reparations Council Meeting: Segregation in New Jersey Committee
DESCRIPTION:Support NJISJ Reparations Council! \nThe New Jersey Institute for Social Justice (NJISJ) earlier this year–in response to the lack of movement by state legislators on the bill to create a Reparations Task Force to study and recommend legislation in NJ–founded a Reparations Council. The New Jersey Reparations Council is actively doing the work that a statewide Reparations Task Force would be charged to do. The Council is composed of nine committees and each committee will present on their focus area in nine public sessions. \nThe second public session will be December 4\, 2023 at 6:30pm on Zoom. This session focuses on segregation in New Jersey. \nWe encourage all UUs to register to attend the public session (which will also provide access to a recording of the session for later viewing). \nRegister at https://bit.ly/NJRCSession2. Commentary (optional) is limited to three minutes and should be related to segregation in New Jersey. \nYou can also watch at: https://youtube.com/@dosocialjustice

SUMMARY:First Friday Action Hour
DESCRIPTION:First Friday Action Hour — The 1st Friday of every month! \nJoin us at 12 noon\, on Zoom\, to TAKE ACTION together! \nbit.ly/1st-fridays \nAt our 2023 Fall Issues Conference\, we officially announced the launch of a new initiative for UU FaithAction NJ—First Fridays Action Hour!  Our Action Hour is inspired by and modeled after the successful program of our sibling state action network\, UU Justice North Carolina. \nHere’s how it will work: UU FaithAction NJ will host a one-hour Zoom meeting on the First Friday of every month\, at 12 noon.  During that time\, we take action together\, in real-time!  For those who cannot join us at 12pm on Friday\, we will provide a Google Doc with all necessary instructions. \nAn action could be almost anything\, like making a phone call to key legislators to express your support for a bill. In that example\, we’d briefly outline the talking points\, provide you with a sample script and then the phone number of the legislators to call. And you’d make the call right there—in real time. Or\, maybe the action is writing a letter to the editor about a justice issue. Again\, we’d provide the key talking points\, some sample language and the contact information and during that zoom meeting\, we’d collectively write our letters. Another possibility for an action is that we invite a key coalition partner to guide us in taking an action. The possibilities are almost limitless. \nYou don’t have to prepare.  You don’t have to commit to coming to every single First Friday.  This is not a committee\, nor a commitment—it is a come-as-you-are-able opportunity! \nCan’t join us on a particular Friday\, or maybe noon is just never gonna work for your schedule?  No problem!  The Google Doc will have all the information you need so that you can take the action at a time convenient for you.  Not only that— we hope you will share the action with your congregation or community\, and our one little pebble can start to produce ripples. \n  \n\nJoin us at Action Hour! \nTopic: First Friday Action Hour\nEvery month on the First Friday\, 12 PM \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://zoom.us/j/94313960594?pwd=OTFDdUdocmY1ckZNZFRyemp6V2NiZz09 \nMeeting ID: 943 1396 0594\nPasscode: 562154 \n— \nOne tap mobile\n+16469313860\,\,94313960594#\,\,\,\,*562154# US\n+19292056099\,\,94313960594#\,\,\,\,*562154# US (New York) \n— \nDial by your location\n• +1 646 931 3860 US\n• +1 929 205 6099 US (New York)\n• +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)

SUMMARY:Identity and Misconceptions of Native Americans in Our Culture

SUMMARY:Rally For Real Clean Energy!
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: Monday\, November 20\, 2023•10:00 AM\nWHERE: Statehouse Annex Courtyard•137 W. State St\, Trenton\, NJ 08608 US\nRSVP: https://actionnetwork.org/events/nj-needs-100-truly-clean-energy-by-2035/ \nIn response to the deepening climate emergency and our growing calls for action\, new legislation in New Jersey (S2978/A4658) has been introduced with the stated goal of achieving 100% clean electricity by 2035. This bill can be a huge step forward in our fight against climate change and environmental injustice. However\, the fossil fuel industry and its allies are hard at work\, waging a massive lobbying and misinformation campaign for expensive new subsidies in the bill for more dirty energy development. With this legislation expected to be prioritized shortly after election day\, we need our elected officials to hear from us loud and clear. \nRSVP to join EmpowerNJ at our state capitol on 11/20 for a BIG rally and lobby day for 100% truly clean energy by 2035! \nWhether you join us for the 1 hour rally (exact rally time will be shared with all RSVP’s) or you join us for both the rally and lobbying (lobbying times and details will also be shared with all RSVP’s) we need you with us for this critical and timely day of action! We’ll be organizing car and train pools to Trenton from locations across the state. RSVP today and we’ll share transportation options near you as they’re organized. \nDirty energy technologies like trash incineration\, burning/non fuel-cell hydrogen\, carbon capture\, and mis-named RNG have no place in a 100% clean electricity future. They would perpetuate the use of fossil fuels while further polluting our air and increasing ratepayer costs at a time when energy bills are already very high. New Jersey needs legislation that adheres to our State’s climate and environmental justice policies\, and delivers the clean energy future we urgently need. \nJoin us on 11/20 in Trenton as we launch our campaign for a strong clean energy bill with a rally and lobby day!

SUMMARY:Recognizing and Responding to Microaggressions
DESCRIPTION:Recently there has been much discussion about microaggressions\, the subtle acts of exclusion that many people routinely experience. This interactive\, virtual training will explore the ways that implicit bias – including microaggressions – manifest in our lives and impact our relationships with others. Through case studies and discussion\, participants will deepen their understanding of implicit bias\, learn how to identify microaggressions\, and investigate strategies for responding effectively to microaggressions that they experience and commit. Participants will also learn about the NJ Law Against Discrimination and how microaggressions can contribute to a hostile work or school environment. \nRegister for October 31 from 9:30am-11:30am \n\n\n\n\nDCR Anti-Discrimination Trainings\nThe New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (DCR) offers trainings aimed at preventing and addressing discrimination through its Education and Training Unit. These interactive sessions educate participants about their rights and responsibilities under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination\, the New Jersey Family Leave Act\, the Fair Chance in Housing Act as well as raise awareness about current anti-bias issues. \nAll trainings are currently being offered for FREE to the public.
