DESCRIPTION:On 3/15 Celebrate Our Victory on Criminal Justice Reform: Push for Expansion to Morris County and Statewide.\nOn March 15th at 3 PM hundreds of leaders from New Jersey Together will gather to celebrate a criminal justice reform victory. \nOur Lady of Sorrows\nCinelli Center\n654 Ocean Avenue\, Jersey City\, NJ \nWe will thank the Hudson County Correctional Facility Director\, Becky Scott\, the Public Defenders Office and other County Officials for agreeing to help currently incarcerated people resolve outstanding warrants\, fines and detainers.  We will also call on the State Department of Corrections and every county correctional facility in New Jersey to implement the same program.  This will drastically reduce debt for returning citizens as well as their risk of re-incarceration and make reintegration much easier. \nPlease join us!  Click here to register.

From busy schedules to the ever pressing tension brought on by systemic injustice\, the need for faithful leadership that is grounded and resilient is imperative. All too aware of this need\, Congregational Life is excited to explore and co-create a network with congregational leaders that support them in this time in emergent ways through Taproot: A National BIPOC Space. DESCRIPTION:  \nOn Saturday\, May 4\, NJISJ will lead their annual pilgrimage to Selma\, Alabama to commemorate the 58th Anniversary of the “Bloody Sunday” march\, which led to the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. \nWhat happened in Selma transformed democracy in America. \nWithin just one generation of its passage\, the Voting Rights Act led to the election of more than 10\,000 Black people\, including the first Black president. \n58 years after Bloody Sunday\, it is time for reparations in Selma and beyond. \nIn partnership with our friends from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law\, we are co-hosting “Under the Bridge: The Need for Reparations in Selma and Beyond” outside the historic Brown Chapel\, AME Church\, where the Bloody Sunday March started. \nThe panel will feature Congressmembers Sheila Jackson-Lee and Terri Sewell and national partners. \nIf you will not be in Selma\, please join the livestream of this event on Saturday\, March 4 at 12:00 (CST)/1:00 PM (EST) here. \n  \n
