SUMMARY:The People’s Agenda: Collective Advocacy to Pass Critical Social Justice Legislation
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 20\, 2025\, 6 – 7 P.M. \nLocation: Zoom (link provided upon registration) \nRegistration Required \nAs the Trump administration continues its attack on the foundations of our democracy\, strong state leadership has never been more important. New Jerseyans are clear: they will fight back against authoritarianism and want elected officials who will do the same. Now is a critical moment for New Jersey to pass legislation that will expand and protect the rights of everyone in the state\, as well as ensure corporations and super millionaires pay their fair share in taxes. That’s why we’re urging lawmakers to pass the People’s Agenda and commit to prioritizing social justice during this year’s lame duck session. \nJoin the ACLU-NJ and our partners on Thursday\, November 20 at 6:00 p.m. for a webinar to learn more about the People’s Agenda\, and how you can help support key legislation that will make New Jersey more accessible\, affordable\, safe\, and welcoming for all who call it home.

SUMMARY:Family Detention: Realities and Resistance under Trump 2.0
DESCRIPTION:11/18/2025 2 PM – 3:30 PM PT (5 PM – 6:30 PM ET)\nZoom\nRegister \nDescription\n\n\nMensaje bilingüe | Bilingual message  \nWe have all seen the heartbreaking images of families being picked up\, zip tied\, and terrorized by ICE\, Border Patrol\, and other masked federal agents. Mothers\, fathers\, grandparents\, teenagers\, and little children – family units that start their day together and end up in detention and often separated. What happens when families are taken from our communities? Where are they detained\, what happens to the kids\, and how many are quietly deported or disappeared? \nOn Tuesday\, November 18 at 5 pm ET/ 4 pm CT/ 2 pm PT\, the National Coalition to End Family and Child Detention invites you to join us for an interactive webinar to learn about: \n\nThe history of family detention in the U.S.;\nThe current conditions families face in detention and the policies that fuel this unjust practice;\nWhat people across the country are doing to oppose family detention and protect their communities; and\nHow you can join the movement to #FreeFamilies from detention once and for all.\n\nIn the Trump Administration’s push to deport over 1 million people – with hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars funding ICE and CBP to terrorize communities – ICE has revived the practice of family detention in the United States. Family detention—like all immigration detention—is inherently inhumane\, unjust and unnecessary. Detention inflicts profound harm on both children and adults that continues long after they are released and is especially traumatizing for children. As a growing number of families are kidnapped\, detained\, and forcibly removed or disappeared\, it has never been more important for us to stand up for justice and for one another.

SUMMARY:FIFTH Friday Action Hour
DESCRIPTION:“Friday Action Hour” — Every Friday until the end of the Lame Duck session!*\n*(Excludes Nov 28th)\nJoin us at 12 noon\, on Zoom\, to TAKE ACTION together!\n➱➱ bit.ly/1st-fridays \n  \n\nJoin us on Zoom! \nTopic: Friday Action Hour\nEvery month on the First Friday\, 12 PM \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://zoom.us/j/94313960594?pwd=OTFDdUdocmY1ckZNZFRyemp6V2NiZz09 \nMeeting ID: 943 1396 0594\nPasscode: 562154 \n— \nOne tap mobile\n+16469313860\,\,94313960594#\,\,\,\,*562154# US\n+19292056099\,\,94313960594#\,\,\,\,*562154# US (New York) \n— \nDial by your location\n+1 646 931 3860 US\n+1 929 205 6099 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) \n\nOur Action Hour is inspired by and modeled after the successful program of our sibling state action network\, UU Justice North Carolina. \nUU FaithAction NJ now hosts a one-hour Zoom meeting every Friday until Dec 12th\, 12 noon to 1pm.  During that time\, we take action together\, in real-time!  For those who cannot join us at 12pm on Friday\, we provide a Google Doc with all necessary instructions. \nAn action could be almost anything\, like making a phone call to key legislators to express your support for a bill. We briefly outline the talking points\, provide you with a sample script and then the phone number of the legislators to call. And you make the call right there—in real time. \nYou don’t have to prepare.  You don’t have to commit to coming to every single Action Hour.  This is not a committee\, nor a commitment—it is a come-as-you-are-able opportunity! \nCan’t join us on a particular Friday\, or maybe noon is just never gonna work for your schedule?  No problem!  The Google Doc will have all the information you need so that you can take the action at a time convenient for you.  Not only that— we hope you will share the action with your congregation or community\, and our one little pebble can start to produce ripples.

SUMMARY:For Such a Time as This: The Nowness of Reparations for Black People in NJ
DESCRIPTION:Saturday evening\, October 25\, 2025\nDoors open: 5:45 pm\, Light Dinner 6 pm\, Program starts at 7 pm\nThe Unitarian Society of Ridgewood\n113 Cottage Place\, Ridgewood\, NJ\nAnderson Hall\n \nSuggested donation : $15\nRSVP strongly encouraged: please send email to 113cottage@gmail.com \nThe Racial Justice Team of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood invites you to an evening with Dr. Jean – Pierre Brutus of the NJ Institute for Social Justice \nJean-Pierre Brutus\, Senior Counsel at the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice\, is the primary organizer of the study done by the New Jersey Reparations Council\, which was established in 2023 and recently completed its two-year study. Their report tells the story of New Jersey’s deep but often overlooked history of slavery and its enduring impact on the contemporary life of Black people in our state. It draws a throughline from New Jersey’s deep embrace of slavery\, through its own Jim Crow period and the state’s systemic racism in more modern times\, to the two New Jerseys today\, which are characterized by a staggering $643\,000 racial wealth gap between Black and white families and one of the most segregated school systems in the nation.
