SUMMARY:Our Planet\, Our Future - Gloucester City Rally
DESCRIPTION:Governor Murphy has stated his opposition to the proposed Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export terminal in Gibbstown — but at the same time\, his administration has greenlit permits for the project. South Jersey communities would be on the frontlines of this project\, bearing the brunt of increased air pollution and the threat of a hazardous LNG spill from a train derailment or truck accident. We cannot let fracked gas be exported from Gibbstown or anywhere else in New Jersey! \nBring your friends and family for a rally of joyful resistance on Wednesday\, May 31st in Gloucester City to tell Gov. Murphy: No Gibbstown LNG Export Terminal!

SUMMARY:GOV MURPHY: WALK YOUR TALK ON CLIMATE
DESCRIPTION:From Tues. Aug. 16 through Saturday Aug. 20\, we’ll walk from Newark to Elizabeth\, to Woodbridge\, to Old Bridge\, and finally to Red Bank\, just across the river from Governor Murphy’s home\, where we’ll call on him to stop the 7 major fossil fuel projects threatening our communities and climate.  If permitted these 7 projects would increase NJ’s total greenhouse gas pollution by 38%!  \nAs the Climate Walk travels\, we will engage in daily community rallies\, educational events and other actions to uplift and amplify the determined struggles being waged throughout the state for clean air\, healthy communities\, and a rapid shift away from fossil fuels to jobs-creating clean renewable energy solutions. You can join for a portion or the entirety of the walk. If you can’t join the walk\, we still need you to join one or more of the community events along the way! \nEvent details & RSVP: https://www.mobilize.us/fww/

SUMMARY:March For Clean Air! Stop Dumping on Newark
DESCRIPTION:Join us November 10th as we rally and march in solidarity with the Ironbound community to urge Governor Murphy to say NO to the Aries sludge plant and NO to the PVSC fracked gas power plant!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat:  March For Clean Air! Stop Dumping on Newark\nWhere:  Sharpe James/Kenneth A. Gibson Rec Center at 226 Rome Street\, Newark\, NJ.\nWhen:  Nov. 10th from 3:30 – 5:30pm.\nWho:  Ironbound Community Corporation\, EmpowerNJ\, Don’t Gas The Meadowlands\nHere’s 2 quick actions you can take to join and support this critical mobilization:\n\n\nRSVP to join us at the march: https://actionnetwork.org/events/march-for-clean-air-stop-dumping-on-newark-2\nShare the event on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/601586854532136\n\n\nBACKGROUND:  The Ironbound community in Newark is one of the most pollution overburdened communities in the country. Thankfully\, after decades of inspired grassroots organizing and advocacy\, our representatives took a critical step by enacting S232\, landmark environmental justice legislation designed to protect communities like the Ironbound.\n\nBut Governor Murphy’s NJDEP has yet to implement the environmental justice law\, and final rules to make it operational aren’t expected until sometime in 2022.  In the meantime\, polluters are trying to sneak in their permit applications before the new rules go into effect\, including two new polluting projects proposed in the Ironbound.\n\nThe first project is a massive sludge facility proposed by Aries Corporation that involves the transport of 430 tons of human waste via hundreds of truck tankers DAILY.  The facility would operate 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week\, and would introduce more sludge trucks\, noxious odors\, and the potential for toxic exposures in an area that already has too much pollution. The plant would emit over 285\,000 pounds per year of air pollutants including particulate matter\, carbon monoxide\, volatile organic compounds\, and more.\n\nThe second polluting project in the Ironbound is being proposed by the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC)\, a state agency within Governor Murphy’s administration. PVSC is proposing to build a new fracked gas power plant in the Ironbound of Newark. The power plant is part of a resiliency project to allow their existing facility to continue processing wastewater in times when the commercial electricity grid is down. While we support the goal of building resilient wastewater treatment systems\, we simply cannot achieve real resiliency by building new fossil fuel infrastructure. The emissions from a new fracked gas power plant would further exacerbate the climate crisis and lock us into even more extreme weather events in the future. And it would increase the pollution burden in the Ironbound community\, which already suffers from decades of environmental racism.\n\nOn November 10th we will rally and march in solidarity with the Ironbound community to urge Governor Murphy to say NO to these two polluting projects!
