SUMMARY:Rev. Charlie Ortman’s (Belated) Retirement Party & Dinner
DESCRIPTION:WHEN\nSaturday\, June 10\, 2023 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm \nWHERE\nFletcher Hall\n67 Church St\nMontclair\, NJ 07042-2781 \nREGISTER HERE \n\n\nAs part of our 125th Anniversary Year events we announce Rev Charlie Ortman’s ’Belated’ Retirement Party. More than 60 UUCM’ers had signed up to travel to Providence to celebrate Rev Charlie’s retirement during the 2020 UUA General Assembly. The lockdown for Covid 19 canceled that party\, but now we have invited Rev Charlie to come back to Montclair. Those who knew Rev Charlie\, or those simply interested in hearing stories from one of our beloved former leaders\, will gather to hear stories\, ask questions and warmly welcome back one of our past ministers. \nSuggested donation is $30/person. \nWe have also added an extra option to Be a Party Booster. For an additional $20\, these funds will go to party decorations\, etc. and/or the Ortman Fund. If you have already registered\, please edit your registration to add this option. \nShare your reflections on former UUCM Rev. Ortman \nThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair is thrilled to welcome back former Rev. Charlie Ortman this spring as we celebrate our 125th Anniversary. As we plan to honor and reflect on his time with UUCM\, we are seeking reflections from those who knew him or have thoughts to share about his legacy. \nTo share your reflections\, please fill out our brief Google form: \n\nhttps://forms.gle/WoQRztXksQM5EGgZ8\n\nWhile we cannot include everything we receive\, we plan to comb through all contributions carefully to assemble a piece of meaning and substance. \nIn addition to filling out the form yourself\, you’re welcome to pass this message along to anyone else who may have reflections to share. \nIf you have questions\, please contact Jerry Fried.

SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Remembrance Interfaith Service
DESCRIPTION:All Are Welcome to Join in this Observance of Remembrance\, Mourning\, and Affirmation. \nThe Transgender Day of Remembrance is set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. With this service we raise public awareness\, mourn and honor the lives of our transgender and gender non-conforming kin and we express love and respect in the face of national indifference and hatred. \nThe Transgender Day of Remembrance was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester\, a transgenderwoman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death\, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. \nLet us gather via Zoom for this essential work which will move us through lamentation to solidarity and support. Questions can be directed to Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael at revanya@uumontclair.org. \nJoin on Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/96530433148 / Phone # +1 646 558 8656 / Meeting ID: 965 3043 3148

SUMMARY:Montclair Prophetic Council Event
DESCRIPTION:Montclair Prophetic Council: Join us in abolishing abusive policing \nGrounded in a shared movement toward collective liberation\, we will gather for a Prophetic Council on Tuesday\, August 25\, 2020\, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. \nThe Montclair Prophetic Council pledges to:\n–Educate ourselves about the force report data for our municipality\, history of policing and current demands in our community.\n–Commit to creating and/or supporting community responses that demilitarize our communities\n–Rely on community responses in the event of a non-violent crime\, rather than calling the police. These types of responses promote restorative justice \nRacialized and abusive policing is a part of our history and it continues to be the standard in New Jersey – a standard that demands witness and transformation. At this prophetic council\, we will listen\, openly\, and actively to the lived experience of our community members so that we might collaboratively face this injustice. Together\, we will lament as we educate our community to the often overlooked reality that abusive policing happens right here in Montclair. \nFollowing this council\, we will continue to gather and sustain a movement of allies\, collaborators\, and co-conspirators with a prophetic commitment to liberation. \nRegistration is required: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_h_4fCQ57RvinkgKXiq9VxA \nFor questions and/or connection\, please contact Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael\, (703) 731-9018\, RevAnya@uumontclair.org
