WHAT: In-person Legislative Advocacy Training for UUs

Are you a UU interested in learning how to get involved in Legislative Advoacy? Come join us to learn the fundamentals of advocacy, become familiar with the NJ State House, meet with a legislator, and attend a legislative committee hearing.
What we’ll do:
- Get an “insider’s” tour of the State House – our favorite spot to meetup with other advocates, where to grab a bite, how to navigate parking, and what to expect when entering the State House.
- Understand the structure and powers of the New Jersey Legislature, including how bills advance through each chamber.
- Learn to conduct basic research and legislative tracking.
- Hear a state legislator’s perspective on effective lobbying.
- Share lunch together.
- Attend a portion of a legislative committee hearing to see the process in action.
No prior experience required! This is a great opportunity, whether you’re brand new to legislative advocacy or have done it before but would benefit from a refresher.
