Ending life sentences for older incarcerated individuals

Bills initially introduced in the New Jersey legislature to address geriatric parole came with a list of “carve-outs” that would have greatly limited the number of people eligible for consideration.  The UUFANJ CJR task force is instead working with 2nd Look New Jersey, Salvation and Social Justice, and other coalition partners to introduce new legislation that would allow people 60 and over who served 20 years of their sentence to petition the courts for a “second look” to potentially reduce their sentences.  Currently UUFANJ is helping the campaign raise awareness of this issue.
