From Resistance to Reparations: A Black August Teach-In

Join us this Black August as we honor the legacy of Black resistance and continue organizing a
movement for reparations in New Jersey!
This virtual teach-in will uncover the hidden history of slavery in New Jersey, break down the New Jersey Reparations Council’s report and proposals, and explore strategies for building grassroots power for reparations and racial justice in our communities.
What will you learn?
● The truth about New Jersey’s history of slavery and racial injustice
● What reparations are and why they’re needed in New Jersey
● Key proposals from the NJ Reparations Council’s report
● How to take action and organize for reparations in your community
Purpose:
● Commemorate Black August, the legacy of freedom fighters and political resistance and connect it to ongoing movements for reparations (e.g., the NJ Reparations Council’s report & proposals).
● Provide political education on reparations in NJ and beyond.
● Grow and organize a base of supporters, volunteers, and leaders committed to advancing policy for reparations and reparative justice.
● Mobilize grassroots action in support of the proposals for reparative justice.
