Carolina Curbelo, Attorney-at Law

Asma Elhuni, Organizer, Resistencia en Acción NJ

Sponsored by UUCP’s Immigration and Racial Justice ministries, this workshop is intended for both our immigrant neighbors and allies who seek to support members of our community at risk for deportation.  English and Spanish translation will be provided by Resistencia en Acción.

Asma Elhuni will share the impacts of the current administration’s anti-immigrant policies on our local community and describe the ways that allies can make a difference.

Immigration attorney, Carolina Curbelo, will cover the following questions:

  • What are my rights in public, in the workplace and at home?
  • What is the difference between a judicial warrant vs. an administrative warrant?
  • How do I keep immigration updated of your contact information if you filed an application or are in removal proceedings?
  • What is the ICE detainee locator and how do you find a loved one who has been taken into detention?
  • Who do you call if your loved one is detained?
  • What is the difference between an immigration attorney vs. legal service provider vs. notario/immigration consultant
  • Do I need to register under the Aliens Registration Act?
  • I am scared to go to my ICE check-in appointment, immigration court hearing, USCIS interview or state court hearing. What do I do?
  • Why is setting up a Power of Attorney or Emergency planning important?
  • What are Notices of Intent to Fine?
  • How do I know whether I have a removal order or any blemish in my immigration record or criminal record?
