Noncooperation Can Save Democracy

February 26 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Research in countries experiencing democratic backsliding shows that nonviolent noncooperation—including strikes, boycotts, civil disobedience and alternative institutions—is a highly effective tool to defend democracy. By refusing to cooperate with unjust policies or authoritarian regimes, citizens disrupt the system’s power, make repression more costly, and can shift loyalties within the government. Protesters need to add noncooperation tactics to their arsenal in order to stop authoritarianism and save democracy. Tony Giordano will present an update of his Sept. dialog on civil resistance.
