Maria and her two children are safe (for now)

ICE wants to deport our friend, Maria Gomez Ramos, caring mother of two US citizen children. Her 4 year old son suffers from a rare form of hemophilia. If Maria is deported, her son Josue would either be separated from his mother or sent to a country where he would not receive the treatment that keeps him alive.

It is no secret that many are mocking and maligning those who have come to the United States with the simple desire to work honestly and contribute.

More and more you are witness to the ways people like Maria have their specific circumstances belittled, how their contributions to date are ignored or overlooked, and especially how no parent or family member would ever want their children to face the kinds of circumstances we are sending them back to face.

UPDATE:

After her dentention hearing on Wednesday, May 29th, Maria came out safe with her two children. We have gotten the attention of ICE supervisors and field directors. They are looking carefully at her stay request now. Another stay request ,with more information about Josue’s medical needs, needs to be submitted by next Wednesday, June 5th. We will be gathering support letters from health professionals, faith leaders and elected officials.

I want to let you know Maria is safe for now and thanks for your solidarity. More calls to action will come.
