Environmental Justice supports Permanent Community Solar

This month, our Environmental Justice Task Force submitted comments to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities on the permanent Community Solar Program.

“New Jersey’s Community Solar Energy Program allows those who rent, lack control of their roof, live in a multi-family building, do not have property suitable for solar, or cannot afford the cost of a solar installation to benefit from the cost savings and access to clean energy through solar power,” according to the NJ Board of Public Utilities.  The permanent Community Solar Program was established this August, following a successful two-year pilot program.  We vocally support this program first and foremost for its ability to create access to solar energy for renters and low-income households.

Our recommendations to the Board of Public Utilities included increased publicity via municipalities and local news outlets, simplification of income verification (as in bill A4782), and simplification of bill-paying.

You, too, can publicize this clean energy and community equity promoting program.  Share the New Jersey Community Solar Project Finder with local community groups to which you belong.  The website also has links to printable brochures and factsheets, for your local library, church, or community center.

Our Environmental Justice Task Force frequently makes public comments, to lend our voice and values to implementation of public policy.  All comments, brief and positions are available at: https://www.uufaithaction.org/policy-briefs-and-positions/

  1. Emily,
Very well-written article, thank you, but the article is a little hard to read. I think the problem for me is either the choice of font type or the color (grey?) – or both.
I’m thinking that if it presents difficulty for me, then maybe it does for some others…. Some of us have less-than- perfect eyesight…
