At the January 2026 monthly meeting of the Criminal Justice Reform Task Force (CJR-TF), after a rather bitterly disappointing “lame duck” session of the Legislature, the task force decided to brainstorm around all the objectives we had been holding, and all the strains that called for attention, but never seemed to get enough traction to actually launch a powerful effort.

However, you may not be aware of the coordinated efforts taking place here, in NJ, to overturn policy 5756 that protects the privacy of transgender students in our public schools – some of which were successful.

Immigrant Protection Bills Pass and May Become Law

The Faith Action Immigration Justice Task Force has been active for months in collation with other groups on legislation designed to provide protections for immigrants from data on their immigration status being unnecessarily required, disclosed, or shared and other related protections.  At the end of December, Assembly Speaker Coughlin offered that instead of passing the Immigration Trust Act (ITA) itself, he offered to work to pass the substance of the ITA bill in three new bills.

UU FaithAction NJ Celebrates Two Years of Action Hour! 🎉

In November, UU FaithAction celebrated it’s second anniversary of Action Hour. Here are some impact statistics:

In two years, we’ve made:

  • 766 phone calls
  • 593 emails

We’ve discussed policies and action with 158 individuals, averaging about 16 people in each Action Hour call.
