Thanks to an initiative by Jane Gaertner, the Criminal Justice Reform Task Force (CJR-TF) sought and was granted a team of four interns from the Rutgers MBS track to help us design and build a database that will house data that is currently available to the public from the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General (AG).

Food insecurity is an official term from the USDA. It’s when people don’t have enough to eat and don’t know where their next meal will come from. It’s a big problem in the United States, where 48 million people, including 14 million children, experience food insecurity annually. However,many more people, including millions who do not meet the definition of food insecure – turn to the charitable food sector for support.

Near the beginning of 2026, longtime CJR Task Force chair, Tom Moran, and member, Jane Gaertner, had an idea which could offer progress on justice issues in the news lately. Over the past 18 months they gained solid insight into policing programs that paired police personnel with mental health workers to lessen violent incidents when police encounter persons in a mental health crisis.

Many individuals in immigration detention struggle to access basic hygiene supplies—especially menstrual products—which are essential for maintaining health, comfort, and dignity.

Ready or not, it’s THAT time of year again! The tell-tale signs of inevitable seasonal change are unmistakable. Now is the time to prepare for necessary action in the near future. Perhaps that conjures for you images of spring cleaning, early garden preparation or aspirational wardrobe rotation. As much as I’m really looking forward to the prospect of some warmer weather, the seasonal change I’m referencing is of a different nature.
